Hearst Museum object titled Dish, accession number 9-12435, described as Japan, Saga Prefecture (Hizen), Arita, Nangawara kilns (Kakiemon).  Plate, porcelain with overglaze enamel decoration. Kakiemon ware. One of four. Flat bottom, shallow sides turn out, short scalloped rim that turns up. Underglaze blue double ring near center. Two birds (partridges?), one in yellow, the other in blue enamel with black detail within the rings. Two flowering trees and bamboo outside the rings in blue, green, and yellow enamel with red flowers. Dark blue underglaze saw-tooth pattern band on undersides with red zig-zag band near foot. Height 2.5 centimeters, rim diameter 20 centimeters.

Thick opaque enamel with white reserve medallions: Four circles with red and gilt marks of commendation (longevity, etc.) on white. White stylized lotus blossoms on rose-pink and yellow arabesque ground, with bats, and pink characters. Band near rim with key-fret cloud pattern in alternating blue, yellow, red and rose on turquoise. Underside plain except for illegible hexagon seal mark on base. Chip in rim. Gilt worn. Height 2.5 centimeters, diameter 17.5 centimeters.

Scalloped rim forming 'brace' marks and ribs. Bird on flowering tree limb in grey-purple, green, yellow and blue overglaze enamel, with red; and black lacquer detail and outline. White ground, brown pigment on rim. Underside has three green and grey enamel leaf and limb designs. Geometric floral design on foot with four panels with floral design. Three bands in underglaze blue. Fuku "prosperity" seal mark on bottom with green enamel over it. Height 6 centimeters, rim diameter 21 centimeters.

Red Hoo bird on a yellow and green enamel tree stump, blue waves on white ground. Yellow band around base of sides. Red enamel geometric band above yellow. Wider band of dark blue at rim with floral textile pattern drawn in black. Four panels on the blue band with two alternating designs with in: two with conch shell over whisk; and two with artemisia leaf over whisk. Brown rim four leaf and twig designs on underside, probably artemisia leaf motif, with three circles on each corner. Blue underglaze saw-tooth pattern on foot. Black and green Fuku "prosperity" seal mark on base, a common mark on Kutani ware. Height 3.5 centimeters, Sides 21.5 centimeters each.

White ground with blue tint in low spots of relief design. Underside has two flowering fruit tree designs on opposite sides. Height 3 centimeters, rim diameter 16 centimeters.
