Description:
Japan, Ishikawa Prefecture, Kutani Plate, porcelain, Kutani ware. Square with corners cut off making eight sides. Red Hoo bird on a yellow and green enamel tree stump, blue waves on white ground. Yellow band around base of sides. Red enamel geometric band above yellow. Wider band of dark blue at rim with floral textile pattern drawn in black. Four panels on the blue band with two alternating designs with in: two with conch shell over whisk; and two with artemisia leaf over whisk. Brown rim four leaf and twig designs on underside, probably artemisia leaf motif, with three circles on each corner. Blue underglaze saw-tooth pattern on foot. Black and green Fuku "prosperity" seal mark on base, a common mark on Kutani ware. Height 3.5 centimeters, Sides 21.5 centimeters each.
