Japan, Saga Prefecture (Hizen), Arita, Nangawara kilns (Kakiemon). Plate, porcelain with overglaze enamel decoration. Kakiemon ware. One of four. Small shallow bowl shape, scalloped rim (to resemble chrysanthemum petals?). Upperside has molded relief design with leaf motif. Small delicate enamel design to one side depicting chrysanthemum flowers and leaves, with bamboo crossed stakes, in blue, green, and yellow enamels, with red and gold flowers. Three grass-hoppers above. White ground with blue tint at low spots of relief. Underside has two flowering fruit tree designs on opposite sides. Height 3 centimeters, rim diameter 16 centimeters.
