Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket tray, perhaps a flour/ sifting tray or lid. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot.  The warp material is possibly hazel or willow. The background weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay is beargrass, maidenhair fern, and red-dyed woodwardia.  At the starting knot there is 1 inch of three strand twining, followed by plain twining until rim.  The design includes a band of parallelograms at the start, followed by a circle surrounded by alternating triangles, followed by five elements made up of two hourglasses and one triangle, with one band of maidenhair fern below the rim.  The basket has a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The overlay is single sided. The rim is trimmed. The basket may have been inverted after manufacture.  There are hairs woven into the basket.

At the starting knot there is .5 inch of three strand twining, followed by plain twining until 3/4 inch below the rim, where there is one weft row of three strand twining, after which plain twining continues to the rim.  The main design is a band of diagonally stacked polygons.  There are two conifer root horizontal stripes at the rim, above which are four rectangles with a triangle on each side.
