Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-70209, described as Coiled, oval shape.  Tag "Mission Type Oval". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled oval basket bowl.  Deergrass bundle foundation.  The design wefts are orange, tan, and black dyed juncus.  The background wefts are sumac.  The design is a band of a diamond net with crosses inside the diamonds.  The design is outlined with a single band of black dyed juncus at the bottom and at the top.  The basket has an oval starting knot.  The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction.  The weft fag ends are clipped.  The rim is plain wrapped with a tapered coil ending.  Due to the technique and materials the attribution is Cahuilla.

Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-70188, described as Coiled, oval.  Swastika and eagle design.  Tag "Mission type Eagle Swastika Oval" Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled oval bowl.  Not used.  It has a deergrass bundle foundation.  The background wefts are sumac and the designs are orange and black-dyed juncus. The design is four swastikas, two diamonds, two eagles, two sets of three short rows of black and white stripes, and two sets of two other geometric designs.  The basket has an oval starting knot. The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction. The weft fag ends are clipped.  The rim is plain wrapped with a tapered coil ending.  Due to the design layout, the use of materials, and the clipped fag ends this is attributed to the Cahuilla.

Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled flaring basket bowl.  Deergrass bundle foundation.  The background wefts are sumac.  The design wefts are black dyed juncus.  The design is a horizontal band in which there is cane like designs.  The basket has an interior workface and the work direction is to the right.  The weft fag ends are clipped and bound under.  The rim is plain wrapped with a tapered coiled ending with an inch and a half of herringbone stitching.  The basket is Cahuilla based on the mixed weft fag ends, the materials, and the design.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-70235, described as Coiled, globular.   Tag on interior "C964 MLE NAG #I023" second interior tag "Nov 1938 8 Portor".  Exterior tag "Mission Type [crossed out] 1-70335". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled small globular basket bowl.  Deergrass bundle foundation.  Tan, orange, and black juncus wefts.  Designs are three bands of black dyed juncus frets.  Exterior workface, with a rightward work direction, and clipped fag ends as well as a few bound under weft fag ends.  Plain wrapped rim, with alternating orange and tan juncus and a blunt coil ending with one back stitch.  Based on the use of clipped weft fag ends mixed with a few bound under fag ends, the grass bundle foundation, the design features, and materials the basket is attributed to the Cahuilla.

Deergrass bundle foundation.  Sumac background with orange and dyed black juncus designs.  Designs are six orange lightening-like rays radiating out from the center and six black triangles along the sides.  The workface is on the interior.  The basket has a rightward work direction, and a plain wrapped rim.  Weft fag ends are predominately clipped with a few bound under.  Based on the presence of clipped fag ends and the design layout this basket is attributed to the Cahuilla.

Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-28699, described as Round, flat base, flaring sides, circular geometric design in dark and light brown on natural ground, coiled.  Tag "Cahuilla att." probably Larry Dawson's handwriting per Ralph Shanks. Per Ralph Shanks:  Broad low bowl in winnower shape, not used.  The materials include a deergrass bundle foundation; sumac weft background and designs in orange juncus outlined by black-dyed juncus.  The design is a horizontal zigzag around the side of the basket.  Workface is on the interior.  Rightward warp direction with bound under weft fag ends.  The basket has a plain-wrapped rim with a herringbone end.  There is a hair woven into the basket.  Cahuilla attribution is by Larry Dawson is probaly based on the design layout.
