Hearst Museum object titled Katsina figure, accession number 2-72173, described as Avachhoya or Qa'-o corn dancer katsina (kachina); carved and painted wooden figure. Wears a case mask that is black with a yellow ochre face, rectangular black eyes, with orange beak surrounded by blue crenellation design. Green yarn ruff at neck and around both wrists. Ears are flat, rounded, protuberances painted red and decorated with shells. Wears a leather bandolier decorated with shells and a shell pendant. Body painted pale orange and decorated with rings of blue, red, brown and yellow. Legs are painted yellow; calves and shins, black. Wears a loin cloth and bustle of carved and painted wood tied with a painted woman's sash. Black yarn knee bands with tassels and white moccasins with white fur ruffs, blue leather armlets complete his accessories. Crest of feathers on head has disintegrated. A.L. Sahmie, carver.

Knobs on top, each side and back of head are decorated with feathers. Rag kerchief around neck. Black circle with white dot on chest and forearms painted black with white dots. Wears a black kilt tied with a leather thong, white boots, black yarn and leather with bells, knee bands. Carries a stick in one hand. Leather sling around his back and chest in which he carries a paralyzed or crippled katsina. 2) paralyzed katsina is "child sized" compared to the mudhead, with a black case mask with pop eyes, a blue bird track on his forehead, a mouth as wide as the face of painted white teeth, down turned horns on each side of head with 2 blue bands on each, a feather crest with crown, a fur ruff and a long black beard. Body is painted with a black wash, with parallel white line on back, chest and arms; he wears a black breech clout and red boots with a fringed anklet. Seated, wears black case mask with straight, white, bill with white stripe running vertically from bill over top of head. Flat, rounded, protruding, red ears on each side, white, pot hook eyes, feather topknot, 2 black and white yarn "braids" on each side of head emerge from topknot. Black and white ruff at neck. Dressed in white shirt and pants, and Taos boots. Holds a rattle in one hand and a crook decorated with a feather in the other. Pronounced hump on back; pronounced genitals. Hearst Museum object titled Katsina figure, accession number 2-72124, described as Standing figure; carved and painted cotton wood root figure with white face decorated with 2 rectangular black eyes and small, square, black mouth over 2 connected brown diamond shapes which extends across cheeks and from bridge of nose to chin. Each is bordered with a narrow turquoise line. Striated black hair hangs down back almost to waist. A painted roundel with carved wooden feathers is attached over each ear. Body is painted with a white wash over which brown/tan lines are painted. Figure wears a painted breast plate over which hangs a turquoise necklace and an orange bandolier over right shoulder extending almost to hem of kilt, over which, around top of kilt, is a pointed "concho belt" with a decorated roundel on right. A carved foxtail is attached at back. Kilt carved and painted to resemble deerskin. Wears sepia tone "Taos" boots with decorated ties around cuffs. Holds a red arrow in right hand and a bowl in left hand. Lewis Rogers, carver.

White case mask with bulb eyes (black/white), white horns on each side with blue decoration. Large jars with teeth and red lips protrude from face. Crow foot painted on forehead. Wears a black shirt, white trousers and knee high sepia toned boots (carved). Buck skin shawl around shoulders, ties in front. Accessories include blue armlets, a leather belt with painted conches and a decorated sash (green/black/blue/red) tied at side with long tails to ankle. Carries a bow in one hand (left) and a "saw" in the right. Hands are painted white and decorated with red zigzags. Feather rosette at back of head. Carved by Andrew Sahmie.
