Plain twining continues up to the rim. The main design is two bands of triangles. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface. The overlay is mainly on the outside, with two bands of beargrass overlay on the inside but no design. The rim is trimmed. Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-59992, described as Bowl shape on pedestal. Circular bands of brown and black on straw-colored ground. Conifer root warp and weft, plain twined, white grass and maidenhair fern half twist overlay. Tag "30 Scott loan". Second Tag "NW Calif. Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl with pedestal, teacup shaped, made for sale. Crossed warp starting knot, covered with beargrass. The warp material is uncertain. The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design background is beargrass, with maiden hair designs, there is one weft row of a material that looks like a yellow dyed beargrass. The bowl is plain twined. The rim is trimmed. The main design is alternating horizontal stripes. The overlay is double sided, with different designs on the interior and exterior. The bowl and pedestal have a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is possibly from Northeastern California based on the two sided overlay, however the attribution is not certain due to the designs not matching each other.

Calif. Att.". Paper tag "#24 Scott Loan". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot, slightly indented. The warp material is probably hazel or willow. The background weft is conifer root. The weft design overlay is beargrass, red-dyed woodwardia, and maidenhair fern. At the starting knot there is a .5 inch of three strand twining. After that .5 inch of plain twining followed by .5 inch of diagonal twining followed by two weft rows of three strand twining. After that plain twining continues until the rim where there are two weft rows of three strand twining. The design at the base is a band of diagonal beargrass and maidenhair fern followed by one weft row of red-dyed woodwardia. After that is a weft row of alternating beargrass and conifer root. After that is another band of alternating beargrass and woodwardia fern, outlined by beargrass. On the sides are three stepped red pyramids outlined in beargrass with a black line of woodwardia running through them. The rim has another band of alternating woodwardia and beargrass. The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is only on the outside. The basket is from Northwest California, maybe Karuk or Yurok.
