- Description:
- Bowl shape on pedestal. Circular bands of brown and black on straw-colored ground. Conifer root warp and weft, plain twined, white grass and maidenhair fern half twist overlay. Tag "30 Scott loan". Second Tag "NW Calif. Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl with pedestal, teacup shaped, made for sale. Crossed warp starting knot, covered with beargrass. The warp material is uncertain. The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design background is beargrass, with maiden hair designs, there is one weft row of a material that looks like a yellow dyed beargrass. The bowl is plain twined. The rim is trimmed. The main design is alternating horizontal stripes. The overlay is double sided, with different designs on the interior and exterior. The bowl and pedestal have a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is possibly from Northeastern California based on the two sided overlay, however the attribution is not certain due to the designs not matching each other.
