Hearst Museum object titled Coat, accession number 9-21614, described as Man’s coat; length: 133.0 cm shoulder to hem; width: 224.0 cm around hem; Imperial Era; predominately blue woven silk, with swastika patterns woven into the fabric. Manchu-style sleeves; slit weaving (Kossu), painted bats and symbols; center lapel and both sides of front and back embroidered with 5-toed dragons in gold thread and a pair of fish in the center, surrounded by clouds, sleeves are brown and gold striped w. embroidered cuffs; gold buttons; wide water pattern at bottom.

Hearst Museum object titled Hanging, accession number 9-21655, described as Wall hanging; made from court robe of the Imperial Era. Two unrelated fragments combined to make the hanging. Upper fragment separated from lower panel by a black border & edged w/ blue bias cotton. Consists of kossu woven and painted symbols plus 1/2 of 2 birds. Lower fragment contains a 5-clawed dragon motif embroidered with gold-wrapped thread, and holds a pearl of peace in claws; surrounded by sky containing Budhist symbols, bats, floral motifs and green flames w/ painted hilights on dragon and Buddhist symbols. Multicolored water and waves below. Entire panel is framed w/ black border edged w/ blue bias edging. Lined with faded red cotton fabric.

Hearst Museum object titled Hanging, accession number 9-21632a,b, described as Pair of wall hangings: L=101cm x W=25cm, w/ 5.0 cm embroidered borders. Matched pair, brick red background, each embroidered w/ a pair of phoenix birds w/ eye-of-peacock tail feathers facing a large peony blossom which emerges from a small hill at center of each, and w/ rocks & leaves. Patterns are identical w/ slight differences in details. Embroidered in muted greens, pinks, beige, blues. Borders are made of blue/white/black borcade bands patterned with peonys, dragons and cloud motifs, edged with black silk binding. Back panels are brick red damask-like fabric. Label w/ Chinese characters in lower right corner.

Hearst Museum object titled Hanging, accession number 9-21654a,b, described as Wall hanging: Pair of panels are each L= 86.7 cm, W=35.5 cm wide, including a 7.6 cm wide border on all 4 sides. Central panel of both have 5-toed dragon of gold-warpped thread looking upward at flitting pearl of peace, with peonies, endless knots, bats and clouds above waves, water and rocks. Additional detail & shading drawn and painted on each central panel. Each center panel is bordered by a narrow red band, a narrow blue band and a 6cm wide border of patterned brocade fabric with repeating pattterns of medallions and bats. Narrow black band bias edging on all outer edges. Backed with olive green cloth. Panel (A) dragon faces left; panel (B) dragon faces right.

Details on cloud forms and symbols, flaming pearl, peonies, bats, & shell, all on a dark blue ground. Scales on dragon edged w/ paint (black) as are shading details on clouds and symbols (blue). Bordered w/ wide, black, plain bias binding. Piece is backed by indigo dyed, plain weave cotton and appears to have a layer of paper between.

Imperial Era; made from 2 robe pieces, framed in finely patterned brocade border w/ red& blue trim. Dragon motif of wrapped gold thread w/ red flames and padded eyes. Face scales are embroidered over gold. Dragon grasps a pearl of peace. Background consists of water stripes, waves, mountains, bats, clouds and Buddhist symbols on a gold backgound and surrounded by a fine (0.2cm) red & blue silk border, a 6 cm border and a 0.8 black silk tape border. Lining is coarse, beige fabric. (b) is from the same robe, with the same pattern and in the same colors.

Hearst Museum object titled Hanging, accession number 9-21622, described as Wall hanging: constructed from a pair of sleeve bands. Each band, W= 23 cm x L=53.5 cm. Border around panels is sW=3.5 cm including 0.4 cm black edging around inner and outer edges of border. Sleeve bands appear to be almost mirror images of each other. Two phoenixes on each sleeve band, a bat, sun and clouds, plus mountain images at top quarter of panels. Flower and plant images on 2nd quarter of upper panel. Phoenix on top of rock, waves and water over half of both panels. Also auspicious Buddhist sign at bottom above water imagery. Ivory background with red/metallic sun; phoenixes are pink, red, green blue, purple, and black; florals and water are brown. Backing is fine light blue silk. Border panel is woven in brown /green with off-white & blue/gray floats in images .

Side slits, neck opening and bottom borders edged with black and white bands of embroidered silk and lace; gold buttons Lined in navy silk.
