Hearst Museum object titled Plate basket, accession number 1-12187, described as Small old plate form coiled basket.  Very grimy from use, quite worn.  2 breaks stitched, one not.  2 vertical designs, repeated; red triangle, outlined by a larger red triangle, sits on the apex of another triangle of this type below it; the other design is a red diamond balanced on a point (vertically) on a red triangle balanced on its apex.  Both designs repeated 4 times.  Two tags: "Wailaki". Per Ralph Shanks:  Small coiled bowl, heavily used during food processing.  The starting knot is tight.  The coil foundation is rod and splint.  The weft material is unknown; the designs are possibly in redbud.   There are no random rectangles in the design.  The basket has a rightward work direction, with a down to the right of slant of weft twist.  The weft fag ends are both concealed and clipped.  The basket has an exterior workface.
Hearst Museum object titled Plate basket, accession number 1-12185, described as Globose coiled basket.  In good condition.  Row of vertically elongated triangles below rim.  Other designs are gradually up and down steps.  3 small marks on bottom.  Designs in red.  Tag "Wailaki att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled globular basket bowl, with no residue.  Twined start, slightly indented.  Three rod foundation of peeled shoots.  Redbud wefts, both peeled and unpeeled.  The overall design is four horizontal bands of undulating steps, with a horizontal band of triangles at the rim.  There are three U shaped designs at the base.  There are no random rectangles.  The rim is wrapped, with an inch long tapered ending.  The basket has an exterior workface, with a rightward work direction and a mixed slant of weft twist.  The weft fag ends are clipped and concealed; the moving ends are concealed and clipped.  There are about 90% split stitches on the interior and about 50% split on the exterior.  There is a hair woven into the basket, one coil row below the rim finish.

Design in red; 3 staggered horizontal rows of red vertically elongated triangles.  2 red rows on the bottom.  Two tags: "Wailaki". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled basket bowl, with no residue.  Pinhole coil start, with half peeled and half unpeeled redbud wefts. Three rod foundation of peeled shoots.    Redbud wefts, both peeled and unpeeled.  The overall design is three horizontal bands of upward pointing triangles.  At the base are offset bands of unpeeled redbud.  There are no Yuki-style rectangles.  The rim is wrapped, with a tapered coil ending with one back stitch.  The basket has an exterior workface, with a rightward work direction and a mixed slant of weft twist.  The weft fag ends are clipped and concealed; the moving ends are primarily concealed.  There are many split stitches on the interior and some are split on the exterior.
