Small old plate form coiled basket. Very grimy from use, quite worn. 2 breaks stitched, one not. 2 vertical designs, repeated; red triangle, outlined by a larger red triangle, sits on the apex of another triangle of this type below it; the other design is a red diamond balanced on a point (vertically) on a red triangle balanced on its apex. Both designs repeated 4 times. Two tags: "Wailaki". Per Ralph Shanks: Small coiled bowl, heavily used during food processing. The starting knot is tight. The coil foundation is rod and splint. The weft material is unknown; the designs are possibly in redbud. There are no random rectangles in the design. The basket has a rightward work direction, with a down to the right of slant of weft twist. The weft fag ends are both concealed and clipped. The basket has an exterior workface.
