Globose coiled basket. In good condition. Design in red; 3 staggered horizontal rows of red vertically elongated triangles. 2 red rows on the bottom. Two tags: "Wailaki". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled basket bowl, with no residue. Pinhole coil start, with half peeled and half unpeeled redbud wefts. Three rod foundation of peeled shoots. Redbud wefts, both peeled and unpeeled. The overall design is three horizontal bands of upward pointing triangles. At the base are offset bands of unpeeled redbud. There are no Yuki-style rectangles. The rim is wrapped, with a tapered coil ending with one back stitch. The basket has an exterior workface, with a rightward work direction and a mixed slant of weft twist. The weft fag ends are clipped and concealed; the moving ends are primarily concealed. There are many split stitches on the interior and some are split on the exterior.

Comment:
Samuel A. Barrett field notes, p. 107: "kinego testai = [triangle design] = something sitting down on a rock under the water. Connected in some way with the flying geese in the last basket." (see 1-12185) Photo: "15-6635" Remarks: "For materials see Supplementary Cat. 1 Page 60" Per Ruth Merrill: Warp is possibly willow or hazel. Welft is redbud, and red pattern is also redbud.
