This beach exerts a constant lure on the residents of Colombo, which is only seven miles away; and to this delightful place come the wilted citizens of the metropolis after a hot day, here to refresh themselves in the surf, under a bright moon.

Hoefler's original description: "Island of Ceylon. A Large party such as the Hoefler-Asiatic Expedition, carries of necessity, tremendous amounts of baggage, and the handling of this luggage and equipment through the customs and about in the countries visited, is one of the major problems of the Expedition. Scene shows the baggage being delivered at the pier in Colombo for loading on the steamship which was to take the party to China.
