Hearst Museum object titled Storage basket, accession number 1-234658, described as Coiled, non-interlocking stitch on grass bundle foundation (work face interior). Sedge root sewing strands, bulrush root in designs. Basin shaped. Design of six radial bands flanked by irregular lozenges in black. Provenience: "attrib. (on the basis of its association of materials and techniques and the fact that it and 1-234658 and a Chumash basket (not owned by UC) were in the same original collection (fide Finlinson), which suggests a source from one of the Spanish mission groups and coming down from the mission period. Lack of any features of the Tejon cluster of style developments makes it likely that it came from a group separated from that area, yet within the mission sphere. That leaves San Miguel and San Antonio as likeliest missions for its origin compatible with its technology." Native name: "shla". References AAE v. 10:4, p. 146, and AR v. 15:1, p. 82.
