Brown color is Brake fern (Pteris quilina). Coiled, flat-top, with red yarn and brass bead decoration. Four complex bands, etc., in black. Rare shape.

Paper tag: "Kitanemuk" and the metal tag "299". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled basket with bottle neck and shoulder. Deergrass bundle foundation. Peeled shoot, probably willow or sumac, background wefts. Black devil's claw or bracken fern root designs. The design is six triple step designs in spiral fashion emanating from a circle at the base. Exterior workface and a rightward work direction with clipped weft fag ends. Plain wrapped rim, the coil ending is tapered. The basket has a tag that states Kitanemuk, the materials and techniques agree with this attribution, but could also indicate neighboring tribes.

Black pattern is Redbud, which is dyed. Large, globose, and finely woven. Decoration consists of triangular and rectangular designs executed in red. Designs and white material are made of redbud; sticks on the interior face are willow. 3-stick coiling with split stitching.
