Hearst Museum object titled Lacquer box, accession number 9-12584a,b, described as Box; lacquer globular shaped bottom with recessed foot.  Lid has nearly flat top, rounded edge, straight sides.  Decoration on lid depicts a pear, leaf, and bug, on a glossy chestnut-brown ground (kuri-iro-urushi).  The bug, leaf, and rim are of inlaid mother-of-pearl (ao-kai), the pear: of ochre lacquer.  Interior and bottom exterior is of glossy black (kuro-urushi).  A few scratches and spots on surface.
Hearst Museum object titled Miniature, accession number 7-3185, described as Miniature; double faced. Obverse shows Frenchman in gray coat, white shirt/stock sitting on wood/green chair. Reverse shows initials ‘LMB’ in seed pearls on blue glass circle surrounded by woven hair set in gold metal bezel. Miniature, round in round, gold metal frame with fixed hanging loop at top. Obverse frame engraved ‘M. Barras-Directeur-Consul’ at top, ‘Dumont’ at bottom. Signed ‘Dumont 1795’ below mid right edge. Probable personal decoration. 10.79 x 9.1 cm.
