Hearst Museum object titled Cross bow, accession number 7-75, described as Crossbow. Wooden butt with bow and fixings of metal. Broken limb welded back in place, April '68.

Stock 248 cm painted red, attached with four bands. Iron ramrod, adjustable rear sight. Front sight missing. Inscription translates “1897 Year Manufactured. Virtue, Victory Gun”. Said by collector to be a “Guigall” or “three man gun”; to be of high value to the Chinese, who had otherwise old-fashioned and inferior arms during the Boxer Rebellion.

Lindsay’s “Young America”, Cal. .45 smoothbore. 81/4 part octagonal, part round barrel. 12” overall. Marked “Lindsay’s Young America patented Oct. 9 1860”. Superimposed charges ignited by action of two hammers. Extremely rare. Tested and declined by the United States Army during the Civil War. However, the Army accepted rifles of similar design from Lindsay.
Hearst Museum object titled Quiver with arrows, accession number 5-16850a-h, described as quiver (a) created by hollowing out a tree branch with uncured hide cap at base and leather attached with uncured hide strips. exterior has been finished by removing bark and smoothing surface. contains 4 arrows (b-h), 3 of which are made in 2 pieces. arrows made wood and reed, with metal triangular tips and sinew bindings. composite arrow tops sections fit into reed bases.
