Hearst Museum object titled Soba cup, accession number 9-12365a,b, described as soba cup, porcelain.  1 of 2.  blue and white "Imari" ware.  flat bottom, straight sides, no foot.  blue underglaze decoration:  two three trunks, and grass design on opposite outer sides.  Five octopus or spider shaped designs between the tree trunks.  three bands near base, two near rim of interior, and a stylized character on bottom center.  painter red character on base.  identical to 9-12366.  h. 6.5 cm. rim dia. 7 cm.

Base is a slightly flaring high cylinder foot, foot has two cracks, shiny white glaze, glaze worn at center and edge, base has four characters brushed in underglaze blue in underneath center base  5.8 cm high, 16.0 cm. diameter. Hearst Museum object titled Tea set with basketry hamper, accession number 9-22505a-e, described as porcelain overglaze enamel tea pot set with basketry hamper; a) tea pot, b) lid, c)d) cup, e) basketry hamper;  a) cylindrical body shape, single spout, handle-less; all-over, hand-painted floral design - green, pink, orange, and blue.  4 scenes: 2 with flowers, blossoms and birds, 2 with 4 human figures each.  on opposite sides are image of a bird and flower inside a gold circle band, with yellow butterflies around band.  top band has human figures, flowers and blossoms.   separate lid (b) sets into pot; pink flower in center of lid, and pink flowers / blossoms on gold background create band around lid.  2 "m" shaped extensions create holes for inserted metal "handles"; 2 thin metal pieces covered with orange and red threads form handle.  gold accents on top of "m"s and lip of spout.   c) and d) porcelain cups with painted motifs matching pot. painted with 2 scenes, one with human figures, the other with flowers, blossoms, and birds - gold background with greens, pinks, blues and reds.   e) basketry hamper; fitted case, made of interlocked coiling over a single rod foundation, has 2 brass handles on top and a handcut formed brass clasp; 3 brass rings on anterior hold lid on; interior completely lined with pink floral woven material; tea cup form lined in bright pink geometric fabric, tea pot well lined in pink plaid fabric Notes:  Found on UCDD (Acc. # 3032) storage shelf AA-3-1 with note "UCDD un-cat
