Main design is row of large diamonds. Tag: NW. Calif. Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl, slightly incurving. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is hazel. The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design is beargrass and red dyed Woodwardia. Starting at the starting knot, there are 1 1/4 inches of three strand twining, followed by 1.5 inches of plain twining, followed by two weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues to the rim where there is ⅓ inch of parallel warp open work. The rim is wrapped in beargrass, around an unknown material. The main design is a horizontal chain of diamonds. The basket has a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior. The overlay is primarily single-sided, with the design on the exterior, and the materials in reverse design on the interior. The basket is from Northwest California.
Hearst Museum object titled Treasure basket, accession number 1-164443, described as Globular twined basket; most of openwork rim missing.  Tag "Klamath River Tribes Att." Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket bowl. Crossed warp starting knot slightly indented.  The warp material is probably hazel or willow. The weft material is conifer root.  The weft overlay design is beargrass, maidenhair fern, and a grayish material.   Starting at the starting knot, there is 2/3 inch of three strand twining, followed by 1 inch of plain twining, followed by two weft rows of three strand twining.  Plain twining continues to the rim where there is a 1/2 inch of crossed warp open work.  The rim is comprised of one weft row of plain twining over two warps. The main design is three sets of diagonally stacked parallelograms flanked by stacked triangles.  The basket has a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist.  The workface is on the exterior.  The overlay is single-sided, with the design on the exterior.  The basket is from Northwest California.

Rim is out of shape.  Tag "Klamath River Tribes Att.".  Second tag "Klamath R. Tribes". Per Ralph Shanks:  Globular twined basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot.  The warp material is possibly hazel or willow. The background weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay is beargrass and maiden hair fern.  At the starting knot there is 1 inch of three strand twining.  After that plain twining, that has bear grass overlay, for 1 inch followed by 2 rows of three strand twining.  After that there is plain twining until the rim where there is 2 weft rows of three strand twining.  The design includes a band of alternating diagonal black and tan lines on the base.  The primary design is four diamonds with diagonal stripes inside them and surrounded by triangles.  At the rim there another row of alternating diagonal black and tan lines. The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The overlay is only on the outside.  The rim is trimmed, and is unraveling. The basket is from Northwest California, possibly Yurok or Wiyot based on the design.

Tag "Klamath River Tribes Att." Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot, indented.  The warp material is probably willow. The background weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay is beargrass and red dyed woodwardia fern.  At the starting knot there is 3 strand twining for .5 inch followed by 1.5 inches of diagonal twining, followed by one weft row of three strand twining.  After that diagonal twining continues until the rim where there are two weft rows of three strand twining.  The design is a band of slanted stripes of alternating beargrass and red dyed woodwardia.  The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The overlay is only on the outside.  The rim has the warp sticks sticking up above the rim, and are trimmed evenly.  It is an uncommon basket, as very few baskets in Northwestern California are made of mostly diagonal twining.  There is a hair woven into the basket.

Per Ralph Shanks:  Close-twined and openwork basket, made for sale.  Crossed warp starting knot.  The warp material is probably hazel.  The basket has conifer root wefts.  The overlay weft material is beargrass, maidenhair fern, and red-dyed woodwardia.  Starting at the starting knot, there are two weft rows of plain twining, followed by 3 weft rows of three strand twining, followed by 1 1/4 inches of plain twining, followed by 3 weft rows of three strand twining.  Going up the sides of the basket plain twining is followed by openwork parallel warps, followed by plain twining with its uppermost weft row in three strand twining, followed by openwork crossed warps.  At the rim there are 2 weft rows and a possibly a reinforcing rod wrapped with beargrass.   The rim undulates.  The main design is horizontal bands of alternating beargrass and maidenhair fern triangles.  The basket has a rightward work direction, with an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The overlay is single sided, with the design on the exterior.  The workface is on the exterior.  The basket is from Northwestern California.

Per Ralph Shanks:  Globular twined basket bowl "fancy basket".  Crossed warp starting knot, slightly indented.  Overlay on the outside.  The warp material is willow or hazel.  The weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay design is beargrass and maidenhair fern.  At the starting knot there is an inch of three strand twining, after that 1 1/2 inches of plain twining, after that 3 weft rows of three strand twining, switching to plain twining until the rim, where there are 3 weft rows of three strand twining.   The warp sticks are finely trimmed at the rim.  Starting at the base the designs are a band of beargrass followed by a band of conifer root and then a horizontal wavy black band.  The main body design is two stacked zigzags. Three weft rows below rim are two rows of maidenhair fern.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist with an exterior workface.  Based on the materials and techniques this is a Northwest California basket.  There are hairs on the bottom of the basket.
