Hearst Museum object titled Army mug, accession number 9-23887, described as Tin army mug. The silver-gray body is cast with a five-pointed star and the slogan “Serve the People” (為人民服務Wei renmin fuwu). The middle character min is enclosed in the star. Aquisition data: Liulichang West, Beijing, Ms. Hao Yu. Purchased 2005 or earlier.

Characters are outlined in red and set between a decorative band of red and green patterns and flowers around the rim and, below, a red bowstring. Inscription: An unreadable red circular factory kiln mark on foot. Almost identical bowl CB67 has seal “Product of Nantong Ceramic Factory, Jiangsu” (江苏南通瓷厂出品 Jiangsu Nantong cichang chupin). Place of Origin: China, probably Nantong, Jiangsu Province Condition: Good. Signs of wear Acquisition Data: Beijing, probably Panjiayuan. 2001-2005

A wide imitation-gold rim bowstring is around lip and foot. Inscription: Red square maker’s mark on the foot: “Manufactured by Feng Quan” (馮詮製造 Feng Quan zhizao) Place of Origin: China Condition: Good. Signs of wear. Acquisition Data: Panjiayuan. Hearst Museum object titled Flask, accession number 9-23851, described as Aluminum hot water flask. The body is decorated with a photographic transfer of a golden wheat field; electrical pylons indicate rural electrification. Hovering over a wheat field are two large red characters outlined in white. They read “Bumper Harvest”. A logo is impressed on the bottom edge of the flask: Sunflower (向阳 Xiangyang), with a sunflower image and marked “-1-.” A similar logo is impressed on the top of the lid, but in a different arrangement.
