Hearst Museum object titled Jar basket, accession number 1-21006, described as Rather high bottle neck coiled basket with 6 triple step designs in spiral fashion.  Paper tag: "Kitanemuk" and the metal tag "299". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled basket with bottle neck and shoulder.  Deergrass bundle foundation.  Peeled shoot, probably willow or sumac, background wefts.  Black devil's claw or bracken fern root designs.  The design is six triple step designs in spiral fashion emanating from a circle at the base. Exterior workface and a rightward work direction with clipped weft fag ends.  Plain wrapped rim, the coil ending is tapered.  The basket has a tag that states Kitanemuk, the materials and techniques agree with this attribution, but could also indicate neighboring tribes.

Red pattern is Yucca. Black pattern is Brake fern (Pteris quilina). With major portion of a body in red ornaments with white human figures and white hollow triangles.
Hearst Museum object titled Jar basket, accession number 1-21010, described as Small coiled bottle-neck basket with broad mouth; 4 vertical stripes consisting in each case of black-white-red-white-black lines. Between the vertical decorations are 4 groups of 4 red bars each.  Paper tag "Kitanemuk".  Had a paper tag glued to the bottom but it has been mostly removed. Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled basket with bottle neck.  Deergrass bundle foundation.    Pinhole start.  The basket has willow background wefts.  The designs are in black bracken fern root and red Joshua tree root.  The design includes four sets of undulating black- red- black vertical lines, emanating from a circle at the base and extending through the rim.  There are also four red crosses formed by four rectangles.  The basket has an exterior workface and a rightward work direction with clipped weft fag ends.  Plain wrapped rim, the coil ending is tapered.  The wefts are not tightly spaced.  The basket has a tag that states Kitanemuk, the materials and techniques agree with this attribution, but could also indicate neighboring tribes such as Kawaiisu or Tubatulabal.
Hearst Museum object titled Jar basket, accession number 1-20990, described as Bottle neck coiled basket; lower 2/3 of red material broken by alternating red and white zigzag lines; around shoulder and neck is elongated step design spirally arranged.  Hang tag "Kitanemuk".  Metal tag "193".  On bottom "No.193 Property of Mrs. George H. Taylor Fresno Cal". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled bottleneck basket.  The start is oval.  Grass bundle foundation.  The wefts are Joshua tree root for the red and probably willow for the tan.  The wefts are not tightly spaced.  The lower 2/3's of the basket is red, broken by alternating red and white zigzag lines; around shoulder and neck there is elongated rectangular step design spirally arranged continuing to the rim.  The weft fag ends are clipped.  The workface is on the exterior and the work direction is to the right.  The rim is plain wrapped.  The coil ending is tapered.  This is probably Tubatulabal or Kawaiisu basket based on the technique and materials.
