Bottle neck coiled basket; lower 2/3 of red material broken by alternating red and white zigzag lines; around shoulder and neck is elongated step design spirally arranged. Hang tag "Kitanemuk". Metal tag "193". On bottom "No.193 Property of Mrs. George H. Taylor Fresno Cal". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled bottleneck basket. The start is oval. Grass bundle foundation. The wefts are Joshua tree root for the red and probably willow for the tan. The wefts are not tightly spaced. The lower 2/3's of the basket is red, broken by alternating red and white zigzag lines; around shoulder and neck there is elongated rectangular step design spirally arranged continuing to the rim. The weft fag ends are clipped. The workface is on the exterior and the work direction is to the right. The rim is plain wrapped. The coil ending is tapered. This is probably Tubatulabal or Kawaiisu basket based on the technique and materials.
