Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-2539, described as Pan basket, close woven. Tag: "Lassik", second tag "Tugak Lassik". Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket flaring bowl, with the shape that is used for winnowing and processing acorn, it appears to be used.  Crossed warp starting knot, not Northwestern California style.  Warps are a peeled shoot, possibly hazel, and the wefts are conifer root with a beargrass overlay.  Starting at the starting knot there is three strand twining for 2 inches, followed by plain twining to the rim.  The rim is trimmed.  The design is eleven horizontal bands of beargrass, four of which are triangles, the rest are plain lines.  The basket has an exterior workface.  The overlay is on the exterior and irregularly on the interior.  The slant of weft twist is up to the right; the work direction is to the right.  The basket undulates.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-59991, described as Round with concave base.  Circular geometric design in black on straw-colored ground. Conifer root warp and weft, plain twined, white grass and maidenhair fern half twist overlay.  Label "# 28 Scott loan".  Second label "N.W. Calif Att." Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot, slightly indented.  The warp material is possibly hazel. The background weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay is beargrass and maidenhair fern.  At the starting knot there is 1.5 inch of plain twining followed by a single weft row of three strand twining followed by 3 weft rows of diagonal twining, followed by a single weft row of plain twining, followed by 4 weft rows of diagonal twining.  Plain twining continues up to the rim.  The main design is two bands of triangles.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface.  The overlay is mainly on the outside, with two bands of beargrass overlay on the inside but no design.  The rim is trimmed.  The surface of the basket undulates due to the warps.  The basket is from Northwest California, possibly Southern Humboldt Athabaskan.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-67841, described as Coiled, wide mouth, sloping sides.  Tag "Yuki". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled broad basket bowl.  No evidence of use wear.  The basket has a twined start.  The warps are peeled shoot rods and splints, with the base in all splints.  The weft material is peeled and unpeeled redbud designs at the upper 1/4 and the lower 3/4 design is an unknown unpeeled material and the background is an unknown peeled material.   At the start of the basket is a band of half unpeeled redbud and half unknown unpeeled material.  The main design is diagonal stepped spirals.  There are no clear random rectangles.  The weft fag ends are clipped or bound under.  The weft moving ends are concealed.  The rim is plain wrapped with a few rim ticks in peeled and unpeeled redbud directly under the rim coil ending.  The rim coil ending is blunt with three back stitches and is cut off at the end. The wefts are split less than 10% on the exterior and on the interior 50-60% are split.  The basket has an exterior workface, a rightward work direction, and down to the right slant of weft twist.  Based on the materials and techniques the basket could be either Wailaki or Yuki.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-71065, described as Twined, bowl shape with incurving rim.  Tag "NE California". Per Ralph Shanks:  Materials are conifer root weft with overlay of beargrass background; designs are black maidenhair fern, and red dyed woodwardia fern stem.  Designs are black stepped triangles and rectangles, with red stripes.  Plain twined with some rows of three strand twining.  Up to right slanted twist.  Possibly Southern Humboldt Athabaskan.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-722, described as Coiled; squat, globular shape.  Design in red; first couple of rows at start are red.  Tag: "Wailaki".  Loose tag "att". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled globular basket bowl, with no residue.  Twined start.  Peeled shoot rod foundation.  Redbud wefts both peeled and unpeeled.  The overall design is diagonal steps with rectangles and triangles on the tops and bases of the steps.  There are random rectangles.  The rim is wrapped, with slightly tapered ending; the last inch of wefts is backstitched.  The basket has an exterior workface, with a rightward work direction and primarily down to the right slant of weft twist.  The weft fag ends are primarily clipped with some concealed; the moving ends are primarily concealed with some clipped.  There are split and unsplit stitches on the interior.  The basket could be either Wailaki or Yuki.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-28156, described as Openwork basket bowl.  Grimy from use.  Twill twining; one row of 3-strand twining about 3.5 cm from start; 3 top rows more closely worked.  Tag: "Nongatl". Per Ralph Shanks:  Open-work basket serving tray, used.  Crossed warp starting knot.  Probably hazel or willow warps with hazel or willow wefts.  Starting at the starting knot there is plain twining for 1 1/2 inches, followed by one weft row of three strand twining, followed by 3 inches of plain twining, with two rows of close twined weft rows at the rim.  The warps are variably placed, but not crossed.  The rim is trimmed.  The workface is on the exterior.  The basket has a rightward work direction and an up to the right slant of weft twist.

Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled basket bowl, appears to be a food serving bowl.  Used, with wear and food residue.  The start is a coil start.  The coil foundation is rod and splint redbud shoots.  The wefts are interior peeled redbud.  The rim is plain wrapped, with a tapered coil ending with six diagonal backstitches.  The weft fag ends and the weft moving ends are bound under.  The wefts are split infrequently on the exterior, on the interior up to half are split.  The basket has an exterior work face, a rightward work direction, and a down to the right slant of weft twist.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-2551, described as Bowl.  Tag: "Tcunus Lassik".  Second tag: "Lassik". Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket bowl, not used.  Crossed warp starting knot.  Peeled shoot warps and conifer root (Pinophyta) wefts with an overlay of beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax) and maidenhair fern (Adiantum pedatum).  Starting at the starting knot there is three strand twining for 1/2 inch, followed by 1 inch of plain twining, followed by one weft row of three strand twining, followed by plain twining for 4 inches, followed by one weft row of three strand twining, followed by two weft rows of diagonal twining over two warps.  The rim is trimmed, with the warp sticks extending up slightly.  The overlay design is a horizontal band with a beargrass background and two horizontal rows of polygon designs in maidenhair fern.  The workface is on the exterior. The overlay design is on the exterior and interior faces.  The basket has a rightward work direction and an up to the right slant of weft twist.  There are several hairs woven into the base of the basket.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-11934, described as Old hemispherical coiled basket of welt foundation, with very open stiches.  Tag "Yuki". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled low broad basket bowl.  Used, with residue.  The start is a tight spiral.  The coil foundation is peeled shoot splint and rods.  The basket wefts are peeled redbud, with two to three wefts of unpeeled redbud.  There is one random rectangle.  The rim is plain wrapped; the rim ending is blunt/ possibly snapped off.  The basket has an exterior workface.  The weft fag ends are bound under; the interior moving ends are bound under.  There are about 30% split wefts on the interior, with less than 5% split on the exterior.  The basket has a rightward work direction, with a variable slant of weft twist, with the majority of weft twists down to the right.  The catalog card mentions a Wailaki maker, Sally Brown.  The techniques and materials indicate this could be either a Yuki or Wailaki basket.
