Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-71057, described as Twined, bowl shape with incurving rim. Per Ralph Shanks: Base is three strand twining, side is plain twining, overlay is beargrass, and design is in redbud.  Warp sticks are probably hazel.  Warp sticks are irregularly broken off at rim.  Designs are four crosses with four smaller crosses within them as well as rectangles around top.

Design is stepped.  Basket is stained on the exterior in several places. Weaver's hair woven into basket. Tag:"H CJ Lee Midano (crossed out and hard to read) by Kate 10" dia L.L.L.

Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-71062, described as Twined, bowl shape with incurving rim. Per Ralph Shanks: Globular shaped bowl probably made for sale. Starting knot appears to have been either lost or removed. Materials are hazel shoot warps, conifer root wefts with beargrass overlay and black maidenhair fern designs. Entire base is three strand twining; side is plain twined except for uppermost row which is three strand twining. Design is three diagonal zigzags. Tag on basket says "Pitt River". The basket is probably Achumawi or Atsugewi.

Complex designs in split grass stem overlay on darker ground of tule weft.  Warp and weft of tule or cattail leaf, overlay of split grass stem material.  Use of grass stem overlay instead of Xerophyllum tenax, and 3-strand braided twining on base are Modoc/Klamath features.
