Hearst Museum object titled Cradle, accession number 1-16572, described as Baby basket; twined. Warp is Willow (Salix), weft is yellow Pine. Rim bound with same. Dirty and in very poor condition; smashed and falling apart; strips of cloth have been tied on for crude repairs. Oval-shaped. Openwork with groups of 3 rows of tight plain twining, the third row turned the opposite direction. Thinner rim (than 1-16571) stitched around all the way, excepting the top perhaps. Ties and loops are of denim; other colored cotton strips are attached. Carrying strap is attached; also has cotton string. An attempt was made to repair a large hole at the bottom with fabric strips.

Scoop-shaped. Open twined work. Groups of 2 or 3 close rows of plain twining, with another row slanted the opposite direction. Rim hoop of peeled shoots is sewn on to 3 sides, but not to top. Loops and ties are made of buckskin, except for one made of dark cotton.

Openwork with groups of 3 rows of tight plain twining, the third row turned the opposite direction. A bundle of shoots is sewn together as the rim in some places. Repaired with white gauze fabric. White fabric ties and loops, with the exception of one of blue denim.

White pattern is Beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax). Red dye is Chain fern (Woodwardia spinulosa) in alder (Alnus rubra).
