Hearst Museum object titled Hanging, accession number 9-21657a,b, described as Pair of wall hangings.  Imperial Era;  made from 2 robe pieces, framed in finely patterned brocade border w/ red& blue trim.   Dragon motif of wrapped gold thread w/ red flames and padded eyes.  Face scales are embroidered over gold.  Dragon grasps a pearl of peace.  Background consists of water stripes, waves, mountains, bats, clouds and Buddhist symbols on a gold backgound and surrounded by a fine (0.2cm) red & blue silk border, a 6 cm border and a 0.8 black silk tape border.  Lining is coarse, beige fabric.  (b) is from the same robe, with the same pattern and in the same colors.
Hearst Museum object titled Hanging, accession number 9-21622, described as Wall hanging: constructed from a pair of sleeve bands. Each band, W= 23 cm x L=53.5 cm. Border around panels is sW=3.5 cm including 0.4 cm black edging around inner and outer edges of border. Sleeve bands appear to be almost mirror images of each other. Two phoenixes on each sleeve band, a bat, sun and clouds, plus mountain images at top quarter of panels. Flower and plant images on 2nd quarter of upper panel. Phoenix on top of rock, waves and water over half of both panels. Also auspicious Buddhist sign at bottom above water imagery. Ivory background with red/metallic sun; phoenixes are pink, red, green blue, purple, and black; florals and water are brown. Backing is fine light blue silk. Border panel is woven in brown /green with off-white & blue/gray floats in images .
Hearst Museum object titled Hanging, accession number 9-16470, described as Hanging, brocade;  orange silk satin background with coarse cotton backing, depicted are 4 dragons (couched in gold thread) in midair w/ zoo-i head clouds & bats, over waves hiding smaller dragons & other creatures.  Lower third is bright multicolor diagonally patterned stripes, as is border.  Orange silk satin covered with multicolor embroidery, mostly satin, chain and stem stitch, french knot and couching.  China att.  Cf 9-13559 file code 3.3.  This item has the same dragon and wave design.  It is a dragon robe from the late 19th c. and may have been worn by a prince of high ranking mandarin official.  145 cm by 48 cm.
