Hearst Museum object titled Camel ornament, accession number 9-23710, described as Camel ornament, malabbah. White, (cotton) red, orange, and black. A little green around diamond lozenges in weft twining. A series of braids and tassels hang from a 15" portion at center, where camel's front/chest would be. Outstanding feature of the piece is wasm design woven in. Wasm are from the Al Saud, the royal family. Basic wasm is a stick (matrak) with a circle on each side. Some of these wasm have a dot inside the circle. This is also a T wasm in the design. Ends are strongly sewn around sticks and bound with polyester print fabric. Nylon rope is attached to wool cording that was sewn in. Nylon rope, 30 " long, was to tie onto camel. End of weave was twined twice. Ends of weft twining are left as tufts on the selvage. Placed across chest and flanks of camel. May have been made on commission. Z-plied cotton, S-plied wool. Commercial dyes used. Warp-faced plain weave with weft twining. 14 EPI thread count per inch.
Hearst Museum object titled Hodaj ornament, accession number 9-23789, described as Two long, tasseled twined hodaj ornaments, allagat, maragees  to hang on the corners of a square hodaj. Patterns in modules of triangles and diamonds, and divided by white and black twined dots. Also misht (comb) pattern appears. Base colors are orange, red, maroon. Other colors: dark blue (black?), white, green. Each has sashes 27" x 1.25" with two smaller sashes on two of them. Total of five tassels on each piece. The pieces not identically in measurement but have the same patterns and sequence. Once has a stick bound into the top, the other is missing. S and Z twist in tassels. Probably commercial dye used. Tassels, binding on top. Damtha says these "maragess" are made to hang points of the hinney, the crescent-shaped liver.
Hearst Museum object titled Hodaj ornament, accession number 9-23790, described as A hodaj ornament, inhalas, designed to fit the front part of a specific type of hodaj. The vertical piece, made to fit over a flat wood piece, is made of orange flower-patterned velour, lined with white cotton and decorated with cowrie shells. A heavy orange pom pom 6" long on top stays vertical with difficulty and is made with Z-twist single yarn and fleece. Colors: red-orange, dark red, black or dark blue, green, and white cotton. Details on construction of 12 sashes: 7 are twined with triangle and diamond patterns. 2 are in plain weave with stripes and checks. 2 have stripes and 'weirjan pattern. Center sash has mithkar pattern and longer series of tassels. Top strip is tightly twined with triangles and a center strip of misht pattern. S-plied. Commercial dye used, but not certain. Weft twining, plain weave in 5 sashes. Top edge bound, tassels on ends.
Hearst Museum object titled Horse lead, accession number 9-23741, described as One of a pair of leads for horse? Rope 7' long in chevron braid with two crossovers, alternating black and white. Loop on one end, wrapped in black and white. Other end frayed. Decorated with two sets each containing: weft twined bands 24" long and 1.25" in bright synthetic colors: red. yellow, green, maroon, mainly. Ends split in last 6", then are attached to 4" orange tassels. (1 maroon acrylic). Also each set has 3/8" wide braids like the main rope, also 24" long. All attached by sturdy loops to main rope, 16" form loop and 24" after that. Very well made.
Hearst Museum object titled Storage bag, accession number 9-23706, described as Storage bag, khurj. 23" deep with 10 weft-twined strips off flap, all with multi-colored tassels. Weaver calls pattern on the 1 1/2" strips "fingers (asabigh)". Dominant color: red-orange, with orange, blue, black, white, and yellow. 2 bands of Saha, Four bands of 'weirjan. Saha'sha jarah pattern is very intricate. "Danadeesh" weft-twined strips on flap with stuffed tassels. 15" loop of brown wool cord for fastening to camel on one corner. Sides sewn with chevron pattern. Has slits at top of bag of varying widths, 2 1/4" - 13/4", for closing. Behind it, inside flap, are worn loops of 4 strand-square braids in black and white, 2 1/2" long, spaced to fit into loop-slits. Top of bag has totally worn "thras" embroidered edge; Thread count per inch 16 EPI, warp-faced plain weave with warp substitution; Wool S-plied, cotton both S and Z plied.
