Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-230668, described as Twined. 3 areas of diagonal parallelograms in dark brown with zigzags in yellow - dyed porcupine quills within. Minor cracks on body. Tag on inside "Klamath R. tribes att." Per Ralph Shanks:  Globular twined bowl, not used.  Crossed warp starting knot.  Overlay on the outside.  The warp material is probably hazel.  The weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay background is beargrass, with designs in black maiden hair fern stem and yellow dyed porcupine quill.  At the starting knot there is one inch of three strand twining, after that 11/2 inch of plain twining, after that one weft row of three strand twining, switching to plain twining until the rim, were there is a row of three strand twining.  The design is three sets of diagonal parallelograms in black with zigzags in yellow.  On the base there is a beargrass overlay of a ring of triangles with a black ring around it.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist with an exterior workface.  Based on the area of collection, Weitchpec, the basket is either Yurok or Hupa.

Willow shoot warp, pine root weft.  Willow (?) shoot warp, pine root weft, overlay of Xerophyllum tenax and a black material.

Complex designs in split grass stem overlay on darker ground of tule weft.  Warp and weft of tule or cattail leaf, overlay of split grass stem material.  Use of grass stem overlay instead of Xerophyllum tenax, and 3-strand braided twining on base are Modoc/Klamath features.

Tr. att." Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot.  The warp material is possibly hazel. The background weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay is beargrass and maidenhair fern.  In the main design it appears that some of the overlay material has either been removed or eaten away by insects.  At the starting knot there is .5 inch of three strand twining followed by a 11/4 inch of plain twining, and then three weft rows of three strand twining.  Plain twining continues up to the rim where there is two weft rows of three strand twining.  At the base there is a band of beargrass overlay.   After that is a band of maidenhiar fern with diagonals coming off of it.  The main design is four elements comprised of maidenhair fern lines terminating in triangles.  At the rim there is a band of maidenhair fern with diagonal bands of  beargrass in it.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface.  The overlay is only on the outside.  The rim is trimmed with some warp extending above the rim.  The basket is from Northwest California, very possibly Wiyot.
