Sedgeroot wefts with redbud designs and three bands of light colored material on the base of the basket. The start is possibly twined. The work direction is to the left with an exterior work face. The slant of the weft twist is primarily up to the right. The weft fag ends are both concealed and clipped. The moving weft ends are either clipped or primarily concealed. On the backface there are some split stitches. The wefts are interlocking. The rim is plain wrapped with a tapered coil ending. The design is a band repeating three stacked parallelograms followed by a z pattern band near the rim. The basket is probably Pomo or Patwin.

Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-64304, described as Small, open twined. Per Ralph Shanks: Twined openwork basket bowl. Crossed warp start. The warps are probably willow. The tan wefts are conifer root; the dark wefts are equisetum, and the red wefts red-dyed woodwardia. The basket has open plain twining at the base turning into close twining, which then turns back to open work on the sides, with crossed warps below the rim. The rim is wrapped with beargrass and another tan material. The warps are tucked interiorly. The basket has up to the right slant of weft twist. There is a raffia like string tied to the rim. There is a hair at the rim. Based on the use of equisetum this is most likely a Wiyot basket.

Made with conifer root, Woodwardia fern, white grass. Twined. Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl. Crossed warp start and three strand twining at the base, becoming plain twining at the sides. The warp sticks appear to be hazel. The basket has conifer root wefts with an overlay of beargrass and probably fern stem design. The design starts at the base and is diagonal stripes, with a circle one row below the rim. There are also alternating rectangles at the base. The basket has an exterior workface with an up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket has the warp sticks trimmed at rim. Based on the materials and technical features the basket is attributed to Northeastern California: Achumawi, Atsugewi, or Wintu.
