: Hearst Museum object titled Huipil, museum number 3-32157, described as Huipil: Two piece back-strap loom woven cotton huipil with pink warp and ground cloth. Single sided supplementary weft of black diamonds with multicolored centers, white stripes and a thick band of light blue and multiple other color designs across the chest. Neckband is cutout, interfaced with commercial cloth and sewn. There are thick, embroidered ovals of green and blue embroidery floss around the neckline.

Neck collar features typical embroidered squares with embroidered birds. Neck line square cut out and rolled and hand sewn under, with floral design surrounding. One end of huipil rolled and hand sewn, other cut with loose threads. Arm holes outlined with scalloped crochet done in turquoise embroidery floss.

White base cloth with heavy single sided supplementary weft with diamonds covering the majority of the huipil. Shoulder brocading includes diamonds and triangles. The square cut out neck embroidered with heavy purple cotton thread. The central seam appears to have either been sewn together or repaired with machine stitching (no randa).

The ground cloth is predominantly dark blue with fine green warp stripes The three pieces are sewn together with lavender embroidery floss. The majority of the huipil decorated with heavy multicolored single sided supplementary weft geometric designs typical of Santa Catarina. One end selvage is finished the other is cut fringe. The arm holes and the square cut out neck are heavily embroidered with triangles of red cotton floss.

All 3 panels: black warps with thin turquoise blue warp stripes. Dense multicolored patterning, predominately blue, in single faced supplementary weft. Neckline and armholes have decorative red stitching.

Square cut out neckline is rolled and entirely covered in thick embroidery floss in multiple colored sections. Warp threads cut and left loose. Machine sewn seams.
