Hearst Museum object titled Box top, accession number 9-12540, described as Box top (?), novelty (?); porcelain.  Probably a top to a missing box: Porcelain bowl in the shape of Daruma (Bodhidharma) with red hood and robes.  Small face on one side is white with painted black eyes and red mouth.  Interior is half spherical shape.  Caked green pigment (?) with some smudges on the outside.  Piece has been broken and mended with two missing chips.
Hearst Museum object titled Covered jar, accession number 9-13397a,b, described as Jar with lid, porcelain, blue and white.  short globular, with short narrow neck and cylindrical, flat topped lid (b) with sides longer than neck.  Dark cobalt blue symmetrical design representing flowers in vases, with the 8-treasures, and narrow band on shoulder containing the 8 emblems of the immortals.  Wide band at base with vertical mountain pattern.  Side of lid (b) has narrow band of ju-i scepter head pattern.  More treasures on top.  The flowers are Prunus (winter), peony (spring), lotus (summer), and chrysanthemum (fall); Emblems of the 8 immortals are: sword, fan, flower basket, double gourd, castenets, musical instruments, lotus, and flute; During the K’ang hsi reign the reign mark was rarely used.  Furthermore, the design, sheen and high propensity to use an older reign mark on ceramics make it unlikely that this pot preceeds the 19th century.

Sash tied long sleeve robe with underglaze stripe pattern border on sleeves. Wears flat topped hat with cloud pattern key-fret on front. Long beard on incised lines. Flat circular base with jagged vertical sides. Traces of red lacquer on base. Many scratches, dirt spots in surface. Height: 23.7 cm, max width: 10 cm. Porcelain, molded and modeled. Stands slightly bowed on short flat topped circular base with rough vertical sides.  Traces of black lacquer on headband, red in folds of back.  Many scratches and dirt spots. Long stemmed lotus blossom held cradled in right arm to shoulder.  Long tunic-robe with long sleeves and underglaze blue 'textile' and floral patterns.  High top-knot with ribbon falling on shoulders.  Traces of red on surface; very scratched, dirty.  H. 24cm, max W 8.9 cm. Porcelain, molded and modeled.  Underglaze blue decoration on white ground. 'woven' disk shaped hat with hole in center on back.  Underglaze blue sash, sandls, hat string, eyes, crutch and gourd.  Stands with left foot forward on flat topped cylindrical base with rough gouged vertical sides and blue spots.  Traces of red lacquer or paint in garment folds.  Left arm broken and mended with chips missing, discolored yellow.  Many scratches and dirt spots on surface.  H. 23cm, max W. 15.5 cm Porcelain, molded and modeled.  Blue underglaze on white ground. The pilgrim's gourd of Li, usually represented with vapors escaping, is emblematic of his ability to set his spririt free from his body.  See Outlines of Chinese Symbolism and Art Motives by C.A.S.
