Hearst Museum object titled Basket, accession number 1-2310, described as Basket; twined. Warp is Willow (Salix), weft is yellow Pine. White pattern is Beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax). Black color is Maidenhair fern (Adiantum pedatum). Red color is Chain fern (Woodwardia spinulosa) dyed in Alder (Alnus rubra). In good condition. Globular shape.  Almost completely overlaid, except bottom.  Overlay is 2-faced; stripes around rim and a band of suspended triangles; major design consists of 2 horizontal bands of slanted diamonds, striped red and black, on white ground.  Mostly plain twined.  3-strand twining occurs:  at 4 cm radius from start, 3 rows starting at 6.5 cm out, and 2 rows from 10.5 cm out from start.

Three-strand twining for 1.5 cm radius from start; 2 single rows at approximately 5.5 and 6 cm from start.

Dirty and worn from usage. Cylindrical shape. Very flexible. White 2-faced overlay designs; two thin stripes at top; horizontal bands, two of connected triangles and two of connected diamonds; with a repeating angled motif between the 2 band areas. Mostly plain twined.  3-strand twined for approximately 9 cm radius from start, and two rows at approximately 12 cm from start.

Black maidenhair fern overlay.  2-faced overlay; top row of basket is 3-strand twining, the next two are twill twined, and the fourth is 3-strand. There are also 4 areas of 3-strand twining on the bottom.

Bottom of basket has concentric rings, white and 3-strand twining alternating. 1 row of 3-strand twining at basket rim.
