Hearst Museum object titled Basket, accession number 1-16577, described as Small, very deep, openwork. Has broken and come apart at rim. Plain twined. Warp ends were turned to the left at top and sewn down to form a thick rim. A piece of string partially mends the rim and also serves as a handle. Original shape globular or oval.

Mostly plain twined. 3-strand twining occurs: 4 cm radius from start, 3 rows begin 5.5 cm out, 2 rows at 8 cm out, 2 rows at 10 cm out, 3 rows at 11.5 cm out, 2 rows at 13 cm out, 1 row at 15 cm out, 2 rows at 17 cm out, 2 rows at 19 cm from start.

Broken in many places, bound together with cloth strips. Plain twined mostly; there is 3-strand twining for approximately 4.5 cm from start. A hoop is sewn sporadically to the rim.

All-over stepped design. Below rim, a white band with a geometric motif repeated. Mostly plain twining. 3-strand twining occurs from the bottom up 7 cm; also the two top rows. Hoop stitched to the top. Inside the bottom scaffolding remains the bottom 12 cm. The packstrap is of blue denim and is tied on with buckskin thongs.
