Hearst Museum object titled Bust (reproduction), accession number 21-272, described as Cast of bust of Marcus Junius Brutus. From a marble in the Capitoline Museum, Rome. restored: end of nose, bits of forehead and left cheek. This is the Brutus who had a part in the assassination of Caesar. The identification is not altogether certain, but is probably correct. The head resembles coin portraits of Brutus and fits his character as it is described.
Hearst Museum object titled Bust (reproduction), accession number 21-108, described as Cast of big bust of Athena in Corinthian helmet and aegis. From a marble of Pentelic stone found near Tusculum (Rome) Roayl Glyptothek, Munich. This bust repeats the famous Pallas of Valletri in Paris and is a better sculpture. The type is the handsomest of all the Greek Minervas we have. The head and gave are long, and of masculine severity, very different from the round, almost Dutch face of the Athena Parthenos. The marble preserves the hardness of a bronze original. New: nose, part of nether lip, sections of helmet and aegis. Formerly in the Villa Albani, Rome. Went to Paris as one of Napoleon’s trophies. Piroli, Musée Napoleon I, plate 8.
