Hearst Museum object titled Bowl, accession number 9-12718, described as bowl, porcelain.  wide and shallow w/ scalloped rim, short recessed foot.  incised imperial dragon motif amid flaming pearls and floral scrollwork in emerald green on mustard yellow ground:  center medalion-frontal view similar to textile pattern, w/ two elongated dragons on both inner and outer sides.  thin iron-brown band following contour of rim edge, 4-character inscription in underglaze blue on base reading 'rare shining vessel of the Ch'ing'  H. 4 cm. Dia. 19 cm.

"Dutch ship" type "Imari" ware.  1 of 3.  rather small, shallow plate.  central medalion containing 3-masted ship w/ flags flying from each, and large flag at stern;  depicted entirely in red, black and gold, except for touches of green on sail.  two 'scroll'-like dragons in reserve on surrounding band.  2 panels opp. ea. other on sides contain small versions of ship.  floral motifs on the other two sids w/ 2 Dutchmen between each;  some holding their hats, others holding Japanese fans.  flroal lozange-diaper pattern ground of grey & green.  underside:  2 panels w/ ships & 2 medalions w/ men.  red flowers & blue leaves between.  H.  3 cm.  Dia.  19 cm.

Square, flat bottom, flared out sides and scalloped edge. Hoo bird in gold lacquer on right red scroll pattern ground faces orange-red dragon on same ground of gold. Blue underglaze band with floral pattern. Four panels on sides with depictions of grass and water framed by floral and cross-hatched borders in various enamel colors. Red and gold diamond "textile" pattern ground between panels. Gold on rim. Blue underglaze scrollwork on underside and comb tooth band around foot. Label on base marked "made in occupied Japan". H. 4.2 cm. 27 x 27 cm.

Hearst Museum object titled Spoon, accession number 9-14583, described as Enameled spoon, enamel, copper; enamel painting, white, multicolor; 4 1/2" long x 2 3/4" wide at bowl; Small, gracefully shaped flat bottomed spoon bowl with pointed end has short handle ending in gilded birds head.  White enamel on copper.  Inside plain white, outside bowl has floral pattern on gold ground.  Blue scrolls on white ground cover outer handle.  Bottom white with blue flower.  Handle chipped, bottom cracked. January 1969 condition good. Spoon, Canton enamel with phoenix head terminal.  Painted on exterior with multi-color floral and foliage design on yellow ground; neck has a diaper pattern in blue on white.  Blue flower on white on base.  Interior plain white.  Handle chipped, bottom has cracks on exterior and interior.  L. 10.2 cm. W 4.5 cm China, Canton attributed. Painted enamel on metal (copper); brass rim and molded handle head. Companion spoon to 9-14582 Painted enamel known in China as Yang Tz'u, "Foreign porcelain,"  which refers to the foreign origin of the enameling technique and colors. Hearst Museum object titled Spoon, accession number 9-14582, described as Enameled spoon; enamel, copper, gilt; enamel painting, white ground, with multicolor; 4 1/8" long x 1 1/16" wide at bowl Small, gracefully pointed deep bowled, flat bottomed spoon with short handle ending in gilded bird's head.  White enamel on copper delicately pointed on inside with grapes and leaves about edge and has two pears on bottom.  Outside has large, curved feathers on bowl, gradually becoming finer as they go up handle to bird's head.  Black signature on bottom.  Good condition. January 1969 condition good Spoon, Canton enamel with phoenix head terminal.  Painted on the interior with vine leaves and grapes and has two pears in center on white ground.  Exterior painted with phoenix feathers (half peacock, half pheasant).  Signature on base.  L. 10.2 cm W at bowl 4cm.  4-character mark in ancient seal script. Painted enamel on copper base; brass rim and molded handle head with gilt. Companion spoon to 9-14583 Painted enamel known in China as Yang Tz'u, "Foreign porcelain,"  which refers to the foreign origin of the enameling technique and colors.
