It is lightweight, thus, ideal for mountain work where it was used for gathering fuki, butterbur, takenoko, bamboo shoots, zenmai, fiddlehead fern tips and warabi, bracken root. It was durable enough to last 2 to 3 years in daily use.

Hearst Museum object titled Bowl, accession number 9-12309, described as Tea bowl, ceramic, Fujina ware. Almost vertical sides tapering to a narrow foot. Dark brown clay body. Thick finely crackled white, opaque glaze, inside and out, down to within 2.5 cm of foot. Many pineholds. Light blue-green glaze diffused with white, running in vertical lines from rim. Side broken and mended with gold. "Marriage spot" on side. Height 7.5 cm, Rim diameter 9.5 cm. From Japan, Shimane Prefecture (Izumo Province), Fujina. Attributed to 19th century.

The lip is rounded with an attached pouring lip that slants upward. One large crack from rim to base. Many small cracks in rim. Warped. Height 5.5 cm, Rim diameter 10 cm. From Japan, Shimane Prefecture (Izumo Province), Fujina. Attributed to 19th century.

Thick blue-green glaze fired at high temperature to produce "hare's fur" flambè. Only the outside rim and a few thick drops remain blue-green. Rim glaze is transparent, rest flambè. Clay is coarse, grey-buff stoneware. Height 7.5 cm, Rim diameter 13.5 cm. From Japan, Shimane Prefecture (Izumo Province), Fujina.
