Hearst Museum object titled Cooking basket, accession number 1-2546, described as Bowl.  Tag "tcunus" and on the back "Lassik".  Second tag "Lassik".  Third tag "Lassik". Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket cooking pot, used, with residue present.  Crossed warp starting knot, dissimilar to Northwestern California starting knots.  Peeled shoot, possibly willow warps and conifer root wefts with an overlay of beargrass.  Starting at the starting knot there is three strand twining for 1 inch, followed by plain twining to the rim.  The rim is trimmed.  The overlay design is diagonal bands of stacked parallelograms, with a horizontal border above and below.  The workface is on the exterior. The overlay design is primarily on the exterior face with some design evident on the interior.  The basket undulates. The basket has a rightward work direction and an up to the right slant of weft twist.
Hearst Museum object titled Cooking basket, accession number 1-517, described as Fine weave.  Ragged edges, quite worn from use and very grimy.  Three strand twining 7 cm radius from start of basket.  Several tears, one patched.  Two tags "Wailaki". Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined cooking bowl, used, with no apparent designs.  There is a repair at base, patched with splints, the use of splints is typical in Wailaki and Yuki coiled baskets.  Crossed warp start, in a non-perpendicular Southern Humboldt Athabaskan style.  Warps are a peeled shoot and wefts are conifer root.  There are 2.5 inches of wide three strand twining at the base.  The rest of the basket is plain twined.  The rim is trimmed.  The workface is on the exterior.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist and a rightward work direction.

White pattern is Beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax). Grimy and worn from use. Holes in bottom. Plain twined. White overlay.

Decoration: black rectangular designs in bracken fern root. 3-rod coiling with stitches split on interior face. Bottom has worn through, as has rim in 2 places.
