Hearst Museum object titled Treasure basket, accession number 1-157447, described as Twined globular trinket basket.  Overlay designs.  Tag "Klamath River Tribes Att.". Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined globular basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot.  The warp material is probably hazel. The background weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay is beargrass and red dyed woodwardia.  At the starting knot there is 1.25 inch of diagonal twining followed by a single weft row of three strand twining.  Plain twining continues up to the rim where there is two weft rows of three strand twining.  At the base there is a band of beargrass overlay chevrons, followed by a band of beargrass and then two weft rows of red dyed woodwardia followed by one alternating weft row of beargrass and woodwardia.  The main design is a horizontal band eight hexagons with four triangles above and below.  Continuing up the basket there is a band of downward pointing triangles.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface.  The overlay is only on the outside.  The rim is trimmed.  The basket is from Northwest California, possibly Karuk.

Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined globular basket bowl, probably made for sale. Crossed warp starting knot.  The warp material is probably hazel. The weft material is conifer root.  The weft overlay design is beargrass, red dyed woodwardia, and maidenhair fern.  Starting at the starting knot, there is 1/2 inch of three strand twining, followed by 1 1/2 inches plain twining, followed by 1 weft row of three strand twining.  Plain twining continues to 1 inch below the rim where there is a single weft row of three strand twining followed by plain twining, followed by 1/4th inch of crossed warp open work.  The rim appears to be comprised of 2 weft rows of twining with a reinforcing rod wrapped with beargrass and red dyed woodwardia.  The main design is nine horizontal checkered two-weft-row-wide bands.  The basket has a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist.  The workface is on the exterior.  The overlay is single-sided, on the exterior.  The basket is from Northwest California.  There is a hair woven into the rim.
