Twined globular trinket basket. Overlay designs. Tag "Klamath River Tribes Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined globular basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass and red dyed woodwardia. At the starting knot there is 1.25 inch of diagonal twining followed by a single weft row of three strand twining. Plain twining continues up to the rim where there is two weft rows of three strand twining. At the base there is a band of beargrass overlay chevrons, followed by a band of beargrass and then two weft rows of red dyed woodwardia followed by one alternating weft row of beargrass and woodwardia. The main design is a horizontal band eight hexagons with four triangles above and below. Continuing up the basket there is a band of downward pointing triangles. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface. The overlay is only on the outside. The rim is trimmed. The basket is from Northwest California, possibly Karuk.
