(a) One gourd carrying case, brown with wood sropper and attached slate knife sharpener. Length 15 cm. (b) One wood pithwad making tool; a simple rod with pointed end. Length 17 cm. (c-f) Six pithwads. (i) Knife sharpener, rectangular piece of slate, attached to wood stopper by cordage which is ornamented with three trade beads. Length slate 9.8 cm. Used for preparing and carrying the wadding that is attached to the end of the poison dart. Pithwar: Cone shaped piece of balsa attaches to mouth end of dart, it is what on blows against to propel the dart. Tool is for making a hole in the pithwad into which one inserts the dart. Pithwad 2 cm long. The stone attached is for sharpening knives and is not part of the “taviq kefarq.”

Hearst Museum object titled Dart kit, accession number 18-1285a-m, described as (a) Carrying case; a section of bamboo with wooden hook for attaching to belt. Length 29 cm. (b) Tube; reed tube hold special dart (c) Darts (d-m). Length 23 cm. Darts for hunting. The case is hooked over the belt and worn on the left side along with the “mandau” (”parang”). Sometimes it contains tubes for individual darts. Compare with 18-1288 a-c for “mandau.”
