Hearst Museum object titled Lid, accession number 9-23867, described as Lid for oil stove - enamel tray. The top of the lid is decorated with a red design stenciled on white ground. The center, which is slightly higher than the rest of the surface, features four characters “Yongbei Oil Stove” (永備油爐 yongbei youlu). The outer circle is a flame-like pattern. A blue bowstring decorates the rim. This would have been used on the top of a stove.
Hearst Museum object titled Mug, accession number 9-23957, described as Enamel mug. A red inscription spray painted on white ground indicates that the mug was a gift following the victory of the defense of the Chinese border with Vietnam. “Fighting back in self-defense; Protecting the border. Remembering Victory. Presented by the Central Relief Organization, March, 1979 (自衛还击,保卫边疆 胜利纪念 中央慰問団贈 一九七九年三月Ziwei huanji, baowei bianjiang. Shengli jinian. Zhongyang weiwentuan zeng. Yijiuqijiu nian san yue). Tiananmen gate is stenciled on the opposite side. Identical stencils, front and back, on 112 above.

The army-green ground is stenciled in yellow with a quotation from Mao Zedong, ending with “Concern yourselves with the Country’s great affairs; carry the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution through to the end” (你們要关心国家大事，要把无产阶级文化大革命进行到底 Yao ba wuchan jieji wenhua dageming jinxing daodi), followed by Mao’s signature. Brown bowstring decorates the rim.
Hearst Museum object titled Mug, accession number 9-23896, described as Enamel mug. The front features a stenciled decoration of the red Tiananmen Gate and a blue dove above. The back features a long inscription that includes a slogan in the middle: Safeguard Motherland, safeguard peace (保衛祖國 保衛和平Baowei zuguo baowei heping). The rest states that the mug was a gift to heroes of the People’s Liberation Army, presented by the Representatives of the People of China in sympathy with the People’s Liberation Army. The top of the body is decorated with a ring of auspicious pattern in sky blue. Cobalt blue bowstring decorates the rim. The handle is partially decorated in the same color.

On the left and right – east and west – tractors and sunflowers. A black inscription: The People’s Communes are good (人民公社好 Renmin gongshe hao) stretches across the upper half of the image. Brown bowstring decorates the rim.

The body is stenciled with an image of a beacon above wave patterns, both in pale brown, topped by a band of abstract sunflower patterns, with red pigments filling the space in between. A black inscription stretches across the beacon image: Listen to Chairman Mao’s words (听毛主席的话 Ting Mao Zhuxi de hua). A green bowstring decorates the rim.

The front features a red stenciled decoration of Tiananmen Gate and a decorative column, accompanied by a slogan: Resist America; support Korea. Guard home, defend the country (抗美援朝 保家衛國Kang Mei yuan Chao baojia weiguo). On the back is a red inscription indicating that the mug was presented to the soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), here referred as “the most endearing people” (最可愛的人Zui keai de ren). The top of the body is decorated with a ring of reserved dove pattern in sky blue. It was a gift from the Representatives of the People of China visiting Korea in sympathy of the PLA. Cobalt blue bowstring decorates the rim. The handle is partially decorated in the same color.

Brown bowstring decorates the rim.

The white ground is transferred with two red flowers depicted with seemingly imprudent strokes and flat, bright coloring scheme, a style reminiscent of Fauvism. Each flower is juxtaposed with a square shape with raw edges. Beside the image is a red inscription “The superiors help the inferiors, both would improve” (一帮一 一对红Yi bang yi yi dui hong). Cobalt blue bowstring decorates the rim.

Accompanying the image is a red inscription: Long live the success of Chairman Mao’s line on the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution! (以毛主席为代表的无产阶级革命路线万岁！Yi Mao Zhuxi wei daibiao de Wuchan Jieji geming luxian wansui)
