Hearst Museum object titled Shawl, accession number 7-10193, described as From Cat Card:  Stole, claret red silk, self fringe plied z twist 26cm at each end. 67cm gold supp weft design - widely spaced stripes, stripe of dense design, stripes but with flowers added (on one end emphasized by using thicker weft ground), then 12.5cm large repeated motif (tree of life or paisley like), then 5.5cm dense geometric pattern. Center is weft ikat with yellow, green, blue, black. A few darns in the ikat area - may be original. Looks like Thai silk. c1925. Cat Card Notes indicate shawl may be from Thailand? possibly Indonesia? or constructed from Asian materials?

Constructed of two pieces of cloth sewn together down the middle. Printed with running pattern of women in kimonos, lanterns, houses, and mountains. Sewn together lengthwise to form rectangular shawl. Edges hemmed, knotted multi-color fringe added to all four sides. Seam down middle sewn with zig-zag stitch. Stored in a trunk since 1930 (prior to donation to PAHMA) c.1925
Hearst Museum object titled Shawl, accession number 9-22723, described as ecru silk crepe shawl with multi-colored floral embroidery over the entire body in quadrilateral symmetry (each quarter identical with 3 large blossoms and leaves on each corner and ground in-filled with small blooms and tendrils.  center medallion formed by 2 rows of flowers and 8 floral spokes with pink center blossoms.  embroidered Chinese symbol border on all 4 sides.  edged with fringe on all 4 edges.
Hearst Museum object titled Shawl, accession number 7-10194, described as From Cat Card: Rectangular stole of un-decorated pink silk chiffon with fringe. Narrow ends folded under and hemmed - fringe applied to these ends only. Stole appears to have been completely constructed then dyed: note that the dye has not penetrated knots well, and note un-dyed areas where knots have slipped. Different materials dyed in the same dye-bath often come out different colors; apparently this happened here. Result is fringe and fabric of different hues. Tag labelled "11s" tied to fringe. c1926
