Rectangular paisley shawl. off white cloth, presumably commercially woven (note occasional irregularities and differing selvedge treatments), twill, printed with paisley design in red, green, lavender, and brown with a wide brown border. Design runs lengthwise. Narrow ends folded over and hemmed - one end more neatly done than the other. Knotted fringe in red, green, off-white, and several shades of tan/brown. Fringe is applied to the hemmed ends only. Tag labelled 5s tied on. Several tears. c1850

Constructed of two pieces of cloth sewn together down the middle. Printed with running pattern of women in kimonos, lanterns, houses, and mountains. Sewn together lengthwise to form rectangular shawl. Edges hemmed, knotted multi-color fringe added to all four sides. Seam down middle sewn with zig-zag stitch. Stored in a trunk since 1930 (prior to donation to PAHMA) c.1925
