Twined. Round. Slightly concave, open weave from rim 1 cm. Yellow with brown center and edge. Two bands of checkerboard pattern of black and yellow. Two black zigzag bands. Rim is alternating yellow, black, and brown. Tag "Klamath River Tribes". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket plaque. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass, maidenhair fern, and a brown material at the rim. At the starting knot there is .5 inch of three strand twining, followed by plain twining, until .25 inch below the rim where there are two weft rows of three strand twining. That is followed by a .5 inch of openwork. The rim is formed by at least two weft rows of twining with two rods that were added to support the rim. The rim and the last two weft rows of twining are wrapped in an uncertain brown material, beargrass and maidenhair fern. The design includes two bands of checkerboard pattern of black and yellow at the rim and at the center of the basket. Two black zigzag bands are between the checkered bands.. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is primarily one-sided but there are two bands of designs on the backface. The basket is possibly Whilkut, based the bands on the backface.
