Twined bowl basket with base. Tag "Klamath River Tribes unspec." Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl with pedestal, made for sale. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is hazel or willow. The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design background is beargrass, with red dyed woodwardia and maidenhair fern designs. The bowl, starting at the starting knot, has three strand twining for 1 inch. Plain twining continues until where the pedestal is connected, where there are a few weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues until the rim where there is one weft row of lattice twining, followed by one weft row of plain twining. The main design is made up of steps, three of which are outlined in stepped parallelograms. The overlay is primarily single sided on the exterior, with a solid design on the interior base. The pedestal, starting at the point furthest from the basket bowl, has one weft row of plain twining, followed by two weft rows of lattice twining, followed by plain twining until where it attaches to the bowl, where there are two weft rows of three strand twining. The bowl and pedestal have a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket is from Northwest California. The basket has three hairs woven into it.
