Large old flaring coiled basket. Tag: "Yuki". Second tag: "1174". Per Ralph Shanks: Wide brimmed coiled cooking basket bowl. There is some residue on the bottom interior as well as abrasions on the interior wefts. There is an original repair at the base. The starting knot is twined and sewn over. The coil foundation is peeled redbud shoot rods and splints. The weft background is peeled redbud and the weft design is unpeeled redbud. The design is three sets of three horizontal bands of redbud with a break in the design that lines up. There are many random rectangles, including on the rim. The coil ending is blunt with seven diagonal overstitches. The weft fag ends are bound under. The weft moving ends are concealed. The weft stiches on the exterior are less than 10% split. The weft stiches on the interior are more than 50% split. The basket has an exterior workface, a rightward work direction, and a down to the right slant of weft twist.
