Coiled baskets. Tag "S. Calif". Per Ralph Shanks: A: Straight sided coiled basket bowl. The basket has a bundle foundation. The wefts are yucca (Yucca elata) background and possibly black dyed yucca designs. The design is five upward pointing triangles and a black rim. The basket has an exterior workface with a leftward work direction. The weft fag ends are clipped. The rim is plain wrapped with a tapered coil ending. Not Southern California- it is from Southern Arizona, Tohono O'odham made. B: Slightly flaring coiled basket bowl. The basket has a bundle foundation. The wefts are willow background and possibly black dyed yucca and other brown material designs. There is a black circle on the base, diagonal designs in black and brown, and a black rim. The basket has an exterior workface with a leftward work direction. The weft fag ends are clipped. The rim is plain wrapped with a blunt ending. Not Southern California- it is Southern Arizona, Tohono O'odham made.
