Coiled, oval shape. Sewing part in Juncus rush, in part Sumac. Tag "Arizona Mission scrap of paper in basket before packing began in Jackson". On back of tag "SW Calif" which is crossed out and then "Type Mission type". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled oval basket bowl. Bundle foundation apparently using leaves, possibly yucca. Wefts are black dyed juncus designs and a yucca background material. The designs are diagonal stepped chains of bisected squares enclosed by one row of black dyed juncus one coil below the rim and one coil at the base. Exterior workface with a rightward work direction. Oval starting knot. Mostly bound under weft fag ends with three to four clipped fag ends. Plain wrapped rim with a tapered coil ending with one herringbone stitch and one backstitch.
