Proximal end of a cane arrow shaft fragment; piece of cloth stuck to shaft. Nock is preserved intact; surrounding nock and extending distally for 13 mm are residues of an adhesive, possibly asphaltum or pitch; entire specimen appears to have been varnished or lacquered; patterns of varnish removal near proximal end suggest fletching. Distal end has been cut obliquely following an impact fracture that shattered the fabric of the cane. Subsequently arrow partially burned in 2 places near distal end of fragment. Length: 317.0 mm; diameter: 7.3 mm. (Richard F. Ambro). Note: Heiser and Hester (1973) report describes this as as distal end; no cloth evident on shaft or in bag.
