6.2 Toys, Children’s Utensils, Objects used in the Education of Children
Context of use:
Chan Chong Chi, an orphan, learned the art from Au Kwok Chi in Yunnan. At age 14 he became a teacher himself. It takes 3 years for skill to develop. He teaches poor people who will do this for a living and pass on the art. Used to be made of straw, now leaf and also nylon. Chan Chong Chi exhibited himself and his work in Geneva, 1973 for cathedral benefit. His display, on an umbrella, was labelled "folk art".
